Neuro-Emotional Technique

Neuro-Emotional Technique: release what your body has been holding.

A gentle, evidence-based mind-body approach that helps your nervous system let go of emotional patterns stuck below the level of conscious thought.

What It Is

When your mind moves on but your body doesn't.

NET is a mind-body technique developed by Dr. Scott Walker that addresses the physical effects of psychological stress responses. It integrates concepts from Traditional Chinese Medicine, applied kinesiology and chiropractic to identify and release neuro-emotional patterns that have become stuck in the body.

When something overwhelming happens — and here, "trauma" simply means anything too big for your nervous system to process at the time — your body can hold onto the physiological response long after your conscious mind has moved on. You might say "I feel safe" and mean it, but your heart rate, muscle tension, digestion and stress hormones tell a different story.

NET uses gentle muscle testing to locate these incongruencies: the places where what you know and what your body is doing don't match. By finding the stuck emotional charge and giving the nervous system a way to complete the processing it couldn't finish at the time, NET helps the body update its response so you're not living in a stress state that belongs to a different moment.

The mind-body-emotion link

Your body and brain are in constant conversation. An emotion isn't just a thought: it's a cascade of neurochemicals, muscle patterns, breathing changes and nervous-system shifts that happen faster than conscious awareness. When the nervous system gets overwhelmed and can't complete this cycle, the response pattern can stay locked in.

This is why you can feel anxious without knowing why, why a smell or a tone of voice can trigger a full-body reaction before you've even registered what it is, and why talk therapy alone sometimes hits a wall. The body is still living in a response the mind has already tried to move past.

A relatable example: You tell yourself "I am safe right now," but your shoulders are up around your ears, your jaw is clenched and your stomach is tight. Your mind believes it. Your body doesn't. NET works at the level of the body, where that mismatch lives, so both can finally agree.

How a Session Works

Gentle, non-invasive and surprisingly effective.

Step 1

Find the pattern

Using gentle muscle testing and acupressure points, your practitioner identifies where an emotional charge is being held in the body and what event it's connected to. The process is non-invasive and you remain fully present and in control throughout.

Step 2

Release the charge

Guided breathwork and light tapping along the spine help your nervous system process and release the stuck emotional response. This isn't about reliving the experience: it's about giving your body the signal that it's complete and the threat is no longer present.

Step 3

Integrate

After release, the body and mind realign. Most people report feeling lighter, calmer and more at ease, often with immediate shifts in physical symptoms like muscle tension, digestive discomfort or that hard-to-name sense of being on edge.

The Research

More than just a feeling.

Measurable brain changes

Functional MRI studies have demonstrated that NET treatment is associated with measurable changes in brain activity, particularly in regions involved in emotional regulation, stress response and memory processing.

Clinical trial: chronic low-back pain

A randomised controlled trial found that patients receiving NET showed significantly reduced low-back pain, decreased inflammatory markers and improved disability scores after just 8 treatments, compared to the control group.
